What will happen when I ring the Quitline?
If you are thinking about or are ready to quit the counsellor will firstly ask some questions to assess your level of dependence and help you to weigh up the costs and benefits of quitting/
If you decide to quit then the counsellor will help you develop a quit plan which includes strategies or options which suit your individual circumstances. Part of the planning will include preparing to become a non-smoker.
The counsellor will also offer to send you relevant written quit material to help you. This material will be tailored to your specific needs.
If you have already quit the counsellor will provide you with support and help to sort out any problems or difficulties you may be having. This may include discussing how to manage cravings or withdrawals, providing reassurance or answering specific questions. The counsellor understands that everyone experiences quitting in different ways and will focus on what is happening for you personally.
